Nourish India: Transforming Lives with Nutrition
Origins of National Nutrition Week
Eating the right food is really important for our health. The things we eat don't just give us energy, they also affect our health in the long run. To show how important it is to eat well and stay active, the American Dietetic Association (now called the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) started National Nutrition Week in 1975. Over time, this turned into a big effort to raise awareness not only in the United States, but all around the world.
The idea for National Nutrition Week began in 1975 when the American Dietetic Association wanted to teach people about how eating balanced food and being active can make them healthier. As more and more people got interested and took part, the event became really popular. By 1980, it had grown from just one week of celebration to a whole month.
Theme for Nutrition Month 2023: "Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable for All."
As we enter 2023, paying attention to what we eat is still really important. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has chosen a theme for Nutrition Month 2023: "Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable for All." This theme reminds us that everyone should be able to get healthy food, no matter how rich or poor they are. It shows that good food shouldn't only be for some people, but for everyone.
Importance of nutrition
Different vitamins and minerals are really important for our health. Sometimes, not having enough of them can make us feel unwell. For example, if we don't get enough vitamin D, we might have pain in our muscles and bones, feel tired a lot, and even have weaker bones. Not having enough iron can lead to feeling tired and weak, looking pale, and having trouble thinking clearly. And if we lack vitamin B12, we could have problems with our nerves, get anemia, and be at a higher risk for heart problems.
For individuals who cannot afford expensive nutritious foods, there are still several budget-friendly and highly nutritious options available in the realm of Indian cuisine. Here are some suggestions for cheap and nutritious Indian foods:
